For the 1st time my batch from High School suggested to have a small-get-together to plan the upcoming reunion this coming December and also because one of our classmate will be leaving this October to Riyad. last October 4, 2009 we went to Calvario Barangay in Isabela City to have that gathering because it is their fiesta and we have 2 batch classmate who live there, my 2nd time to be on that place also. We leave the town proper about 9:30am and arrived the place around 10:00am.   After visiting on our two classmate around 1:00pm we decide to visit our another classmate who is located at Baluno Barangay, it takes about 30 minutes rides from Calvario Barangay to Baluno. It's been years since i visit that place and it change a lot. before going home around 4:30pm we decided to have a picture taking for remembrance.Photos: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=582177&id=1537033073#/album.php?aid=34192&id=1537033073  The Mindanao Open Source Society has successfully organized the Software Freedom Day 2009 last September 19, 2009 on Region IX, Team Lead by me and with the help of Mr. Jonathan Paul Solis from STI College Zamboanga and his group. Over 120-200 student attend the said event from different universities. Thanks to Mr. Sunil Abraham, the Executive Director of Center for Internet and Society who stay-up late just to give a live message about Free and Open Source Software via skype.Ms. Yolynne Medina who is always supporting my event giving her talk about "Introduction to Free and Open Source Software", Mr. Joseph Marcos from NCC Zamboanga who gave a talk about "Ubuntu- Linux Operating System", Mr. Jerome Locson for his wonderful talk about "Blogging and Online Presence", Ms. Jet Buchan a programmer who gave a lecture about "Netbeans", and Mr. Jean Bruce Sua an Intructor of STI who gave a talk about "Moodle". If you are a FOSS advocate, an enthusiast or end-user, a developer or even a newbie who strongly believes in building capacities and empowering humanity with the use of Free/Open Source Software, we look forward to welcome you to Asia Source 3 to connect, cooperate, and collaborate – the FOSS way. The International Open Source Network (IOSN) ASEAN+3 with support from InWEnt Capacity Building International, Germany, and Open Society Institute Information Program and co-organized by Tactical Technology Collective and Aspiration bring ASIA SOURCE 3 to the Philippines on 7 to 12 November 2009. The third event of the Asia source camp series, two of which have been held so far – in Bangalore, India in 2005 and Sukabumi, Indonesia in 2007 – the 6-day learn-and-share event will be held at the lush greens and quiet cool environs of the YEN CENTER – home to the Headquarters and Regional Center for Asia of the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) – located in Silang, a landlocked municipality south of Metro Manila, within the historic Province of Cavite. In the tradition of previous camps, Asia Source 3 will bring in participants from the Asia, who share common goals of pursuing the Free/Open Source Software advocacy and its promotion and use among non-profit organizations, small-to-medium enterprises and youth networks. Asia Source 3 allows applicants to choose one among four (4) FOSS-themed track sessions:Track ONE: Managing Your Information- As technology continues to pervade human activity, digital information will accumulate at a phenomenal rate. As megabytes turn to terabytes and into petabytes, managing content will become a challenge. This track aims to focus on different approaches to organizing information using free and/or open source software. Track TWO: Migrating to FOSS- Free and/or open source software are easy to install and fun to use! But how do you get your colleagues, friends, and organization to experience the same? Track two participants will share best practice and lessons learned in initiating and maintaining a FOSS culture within their organizations. Track THREE: Broadcasting Your Information- Now that you have all your files neatly organized and under control, you need to share these to the world and let others benefit from your own resources. FOSS content management systems, knowledge management tools, social networks, and mobile technologies make sharing easy and affordable. If you want to maximize your reach on the Net, this track is for you. Track FOUR: Joining the FOSS Community / Using FOSS Tools- FOSS is all about community. AS3 aims to bring seasoned FOSS developers into the camp and allow cross-pollination of ideas and techniques. Case studies will be shared from at least three projects. The track will focus on tools, organization and strategies for community building. The track will provide participants with an actual in depth working of successful FOSS projects, that may allow them to participate or setup their own. DATES: This is a six-day long workshop, to be held in Silang, Philippines from the 7th to the 12th of November 2009. If you would like to participate, you will need to attend the entire event, which means arriving in Manila on or before the 6th and leaving on or after the 13th of November 2009. FEES AND SUBSIDIES: Participants will arrange for and fund their own travel to Manila. Once there, transport to the venue from the airport in Manila will be provided. A participation fee will be required to cover meals and accommodation during the meeting. However, subsidies are available for qualified participants. In case you are unable to cover your travel or participation costs, please indicate in the application form below. WHO SHOULD ATTEND: This is an event for experienced professionals and individuals actively working with marginalised communities and small-to-medium enterprises in Asia, with experience in information and communications technology (ICT). Camp participants will be advocates, technologists, software developers, designers and strategists who have used OR PLAN TO USE free and/or open source software (FOSS) in their line of work. They need not be experts but need to have a proven aptitude in the use of technology tools and have basic computing skills. We are interested in a range of skills and expertise, be it in advocacy, software development, design and technology. We are particularly interested in applications from a wide range of individuals coming from non-government organizations working with marginalised sectors to small-to-medium enterprises involved in the use of ICT. Partner with us in building Davao City as the top IT-BPO outsourcing destination in the Philippines. Participate in ICT Davao's ICT SUMMIT 2009 on August 6 & 7, 2009 at the Davao Convention Center. The summit is a culminating activity of various public and private sector consultations meant to address gaps in making Davao City as a favored destination for IT-BPO outsourcing. Yup, you hear it right you can browse website for free using your Globe Sim on your mobile, but all you have to do is activate your GPRS/MSS and have a Functional bookmarks. Below are the steps after you activate your GPRS/MSS. 1. You'll need a functional bookmarks like this one : http://ea.amob.com 2. After having the this bookmark when you need to browse another site here's the trick. 3. just at at the end of the bookmark address @ like http://ea.amob.com@ 4. Then after the @ type the address you want to browse: http://ea.ambo.com@www.google.com That's all the steps i use and it works on my Nokia 5200. I chat, downloads applications(Games, themes, Video etc.) and check emails on my mobile using my Globe Sim Card. Note: For faster loading try to browse in the morning and dawn. :)

I've just received this email.. ________________________ Dear Friends and Colleagues, Cross-posting encouraged: Education is being challenged to change with the times. Lately, we hear words like "transparency," "community," "teamwork," "project-based," and "networked" in the same context as we used to hear, simply, reading, writing and math(s). Project-based, teamwork led by students themselves has come to the fore. This is the kind of learning, we are told, that enables students to develop the social learning skills and intellectual flexibility that is needed in this brave new world. Such learning requires a different kind of software, a different kind of text as well as a different classroom-process than we used to use. While some struggle to create new Web2 technologies that enable the kind of learning and teaching deemed necessary, many have noticed that Free and Open Software (LAMP.org) and Content (e.g. Wikipedia.org) already embody the very lessons we are trying to teach. After all, they are made by teams via the Internet with flexible leadership positions gained by proven capabilities and dedication. Respect in these groups is based on skill, accomplishment and social-networking effectiveness. What's more, the tools and artefacts produced by these groups are open to scrutiny, dissection, and adaptation and exist at the pleasure of those interested. They encourage curiosity, creativity and sharing: they embody what schools' mission statements say is important: lifelong learning, curiosity, respect across borders, etc. In the day-to-day work of schools, teachers, students and school administrators look for "soulutions" to various problems in the Office, the library, the classroom or at home: a text, a puzzle, a tool for reporting, creating or analyzing; something else for organizing, sending and printing; another for storing, searching and dissecting. There are now Free/Open Source (FLOSS) tools for almost anything that can be done on a computer. This is no surprize given that they are generally created to fulfill specific needs or, as Eric Raymond observed, "to scratch an itch." We know that system admins have long used FLOSS; programmers too; now, more and more teachers are using FLOSS. FlOSS itself is a product of idea-sharing; so we would like to extend the FLOSS development process with a technology-assisted physical gathering designed for sharing ideas, problems and Solutions which are being used now or planned for the near future in your schools. Your ideas are welcome. To the idealist: What does Freedom and Openness mean for education? Is your "practice" as a teacher or administrator or student being challenged to be more "open" in some way than before? Does Free and/or Open Source Software (a.k.a. FLOSS) and Free and Open Content (e.g. wikipedia.org) play a part? Should it? Can it? Propose a Session: Show, Tell and/or Teach us how you think/have experience using FLOSS can help you and colleagues meet students needs more effectively than with closed, proprietary solutions. To the pragmatist: Are you saving money while staying legal as a result of using free/open tools or resources? What about security?
