If you’re running dual booth on your system like window 7 dual boot with linux you can simply remove it without affecting your windows drive. Before we start you will only need your windows 7 setup installer disk to fix the startup boot after removing the linux partition. Here’s a few step removing the Linux partition.
1. Log-in on to your windows 7 system.
2. Go to Start> Control Panel. Search for Computer Management
3. Under computer Management go to Storage >Disk Management
4. Now all partition of your hard drive will display.
5. You will notice a 3 partition, 2 unrecognized volumes that’s your Linux Partition and 1 is your windows partition.
6. You can right click the linux partition and delete volume.
7. Then you can format it to create a blank partition to be able to use it.

Now your linux boot partition is gone, but you’re having problem booting it to windows. The next step is to fix your windows startup boot using your window 7 setup installer. All you have to do is to fix your boot system using the recovery windows under command line. Type the following command line:

Bootrec /fixmbr
Bootrec/fixboot

Now, restart your system and remove your installer. Now you can boot your window7 normally.

Last October 29, 2010, Some of the Mindanao Blogger Summit participants join the free mining tour at TVI Resource Development (Phils.) Inc. (TVIRD) located at Sitio Canatuan, Barangay Tabayo, Municipality of Siocon, Province of Zamboanga del Norte, a four (4) hours travel from Zamboanga City. Leaving at city around 5:30 am and arriving the location around 9:30 am via van together with Mr. Ernie Rojo as their staff representative. This is actually my 1st time to go a tour on mining and knowing that TVI is an publicly-listed Canadian mining company focused on the exploration and production of precious and base metals from district scale large system, high margin projects.TVIRD’s Canatuan Mine began mining and milling operations producing gold and silver somewhere in 2004 and ended somewhere 2008, currently they began construction activities for its copper and zinc production.

The Sitio Canatuan, Barangay Tabayo, Municipality of Siocon, Province of Zamboanga del Norte is an Ancestral Domain of the Subanon Indigenous People. The ancestral domain of Apu Manglang sub-tribe of the Siocon Subanon indigenous people that covers 8,213.50 hectares. Arriving on the area, some staff of TVIRD welcome us and conduct a short orientation about the mining tour. After the orientation, our 1st visit is actually the indigenous people Subanon and they prepare us a welcome presentation then after lunch we visit their mining site including their plant. Just a basic write-up base on my experience and what I've learned from doing research secure your computer from different treats using opensource software and some freeware software. Based on the toolkit produce by Tactical Technology Collective, Security in a Box.  Now a days, we are having a problem how to secure our computer from different treats namely viruses, malware, spyware and off-course hackers.  For antivirus software ,i would recommend using a freeware software name AVAST for windows, which is easy to use, regularly updated and well-respected by anti-virus experts. It requires that you register once every 14 months, but registration, updates and the program itself are all free-of-charge. Or if you want a FOSS Alternative you can use CLAM WIN. the various well-known commercial anti-virus programs. Although it lacks certain features that are important for a primary anti-virus program, CLAM WIN has the advantage that it can be run from a USB memory stick in order to scan a computer on which you are not allowed to install software. This is extremely helpful when you have no choice but to use public computers or Internet cafes for sensitive work.

Now the next step question in our mind is that, I've already install anti-virus software on my unit, am i already secure? well the answer is yes for viruses only. there is still a lot of treats like malware and adware. If looking for a tools for anti-spyware i'll recommend using spybot is one such program, and it does a very good job of identifying and removing certain types of malware that anti-virus programs simply ignore. Just like with anti-virus software, though, it is extremely important that you update Spybot's malware definitions and run regular scans. Now you have two application installed on your unit, lastly you will need a firewall to monitor incoming and outgoing activity from your unit.

We all know that the recent versions of Microsoft Windows include a built-in firewall, which is now turned on automatically. Unfortunately, the Windows firewall is limited in many ways. In particular, it does not examine outgoing connections, and it can be somewhat difficult to use. For alternative application there is a freeware program called COMODO FIREWALL, which you can keep your computer more secure.

Note:

  • Not recommend to install two anti-virus on your unit, it will crash your unit.

  • Always keep up-to-date your software since all application is freeware and open source.

Well here are some firefox extension that can make your browsing more secure and prevent others to hack your account. Using public wifi is not secure.


HTTPS Everywhere
- a project of EFF and the Tor Project. This Firefox extension was inspired by the launch of Google's encrypted search option. That they wanted a way to ensure that every search our browsers sent was encrypted. At the same time, they were also able to encrypt most or all of the browser's communications with some other sites.

NoScript - an extension for Firefox pre-emptively blocks malicious scripts and allows JavaScript, Java and other potentially dangerous content only from sites you trust.

If you are using a head phone on a Netbook  Ubuntu Remix 10.04, you will notice that you have a two way sounds wherein you cannot configure it just going to your head phone.  To enable it you have to upgrade your  Alsa (Advance Linux Sound Architecture) version 1.0.21 to version 1.0.23 .

To do this, we must begin by determining our version of alsa as follows :

1. Open terminal

2. Type cat /proc/asound/version

Then the display will show the current version of your ALSA.

To avoid problems during the upgrade of Alsa-utils, we need to stop it with the following command  in a terminal:

3. sudo /sbin/alsa-utils stop

We must then install the necessary tools to compile along with the kernel headers  require for alsa:

4. sudo apt-get -y install build-essential ncurses-dev gettext xmlto libasound2-dev

5. sudo apt-get -y install linux-headers-`uname -r` libncursesw5-dev

Then, we go in our personal folder and download alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils  using the terminal:

6. cd ~
rm -rf ~/alsa* ~/.pulse*
wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/driver/alsa-driver-1.0.23.tar.bz2
wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/lib/alsa-lib-1.0.23.tar.bz2
wget ftp://ftp.alsa-project.org/pub/utils/alsa-utils-1.0.23.tar.bz2

After that, we create a new folder for the compilation and installation of the 3 files. Then, we move the 3 tar files that we just downloaded in this folder :

7. sudo rm -rf /usr/src/alsa
sudo mkdir -p /usr/src/alsa
cd /usr/src/alsa
sudo cp ~/alsa

Unpack the 3 tar files :

8. sudo tar xjf alsa-driver*
sudo tar xjf alsa-lib*
sudo tar xjf alsa-utils*

We compile and install alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils :

9. cd alsa-driver*
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

10. cd ../alsa-lib*
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

11. cd ../alsa-utils*
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install

Then, we remove the 3 tar files in our personal folder that are not anymore necessary using the terminal :

12. rm -f ~/alsa-driver*
rm -f ~/alsa-lib*
rm -f ~/alsa-utils*

Then, just restart your computer and your alsa version should be 1.0.23!

You can verify that you have now indeed have this version of alsa using the terminal:

cat /proc/asound/version

Just to be sure everything is well configured, execute this command

sudo alsaconf

If you want to use the Globe Tatoo Broadband on Ubuntu you just need to install the usb mode switch .

Follow the simple steps:

1. Open Terminal

2. type # sudo apt-get update

3. After the update type # sudo apt-get install usb-modeswitch

4. After installation you can now set-up the globe tatoo broadband and use the settings.

Once again, the two day event dubbed "1st FOSS Conference in Region IX"  in connection to the celebration of the "Software Freedom Day 2010" was a success. Organized by Mindanao Open Source Society headed by me  and hosted by STI College Zamboanga. Over 200 participants attended the said two days event with 5 lecturers. Partners with the different organization/company making it possible, namely Inwent International, Tactical Technology Collective, Ubuntu Philippines, Software Freedom International, 8Layers Technology Inc. and Sungate Pawnshop Zamboanga.

Day: 1 (September 21, 2010)

The proper programmed started around 9:30AM in the morning, with the welcome and opening address given by the Academic Coordinator  of  STI College Zamboanga Ms. Marife R.  Villafranca, Presentation of the delegates by Mr. Jonathan Paul Solis the JPCS Moderator then followed by the first lecturer Ms. Yolynne Medina talk about Online Blogging and Introduce FOSS. In the afternoon, we host the show "10 tactics by Tactical Tech" the 1st ever in Region IX. Followed by the next topic FrontlineSMS by me and the organizer ended the programmed for the 1st Day

The STI College Zamboanga together with the Mindanao Open Source Society (MOSS) will be organizing and hosting a 2-day I.T. event dubbed “1st FOSS CONFERENCE IN REGION IX” on September 21 and 22, 2009 which will be held at  3rd floor (3G) of STI College Zamboanga. An Open Source I.T. event for Region IX which aims to Promote/Introduce  Free Open Source Software (FOSS) and encourage them to join the FOSS community.

Through this affair, we hope to strengthen the unity of all universities, colleges, institutions/schools and some NGO's/SME's in Region IX that involve Information Technology. We have all been exposed to a lot of proprietary software and it is high time for us to be oriented about the power and efficiency that Free Open Source Software can offer. Last February 11, 2010 the OpenOffice.org release their latest version of openoffice 3.2.0 with a lot of new features and improvement to their product. I've just download last night their latest version and trying it.

here are some improvement :

  • Faster Start-up times


- Compare to the lower version when you open it.. the start-up times load slow while the last openoffice 3.2.0 it load faster reduced 'cold start' time by 46% since version 3.0 was released just over a year ago.

  • ODF Support


-OpenOffice.org 3.2 has made further strides in compliance with ODF 1.2, including closer conformance to OASIS ODFF/OpenFormula specifications.

  • As OpenOffice.org 3.2 currently requires a superset of the ODF 1.2 specification, the software now warns users when ODF 1.2 Extended features have been used.

  • The document integrity check now proves whether an ODF document conforms to the ODF specification (this mainly affects ODF 1.2 documents). If an inconsistency is found, the document is treated as a broken one, and OpenOffice.org offers to repair the document.



  • Proprietary File Support


- Password protected Microsoft Office XML files (supported document types: MS Word 2007 documents (*.docx, *.docm); MS Word 2007 templates (*.dotx, *.dotm); MS Excel 2007 documents (*.xlsx, *.xlsm); MS Excel 2007 binary documents (*.xlsb); MS Excel 2007 templates (*.xltx, *.xltm); MS Powerpoint 2007 documents (*.pptx, *.pptm); MS Powerpoint 2007 templates (*.potx, *.potm)).

- OLE objects, form controls and pivot tables can now be read from MS Excel 2007 documents (*.xlsx, *.xlsb).

-Encryption support within the Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP filter allows password protected Microsoft Word documents to be saved (using the Microsoft Office standard RC4 algorithm).

-Filters for AportisDoc and PocketWord now support type detection based on DocType. As a result, files in these formats can be loaded without explicitly selecting the document type in the file picker.

-When writing string data to SYLK files, embedded double quotes are no longer escaped by doubling; semicolons are now escaped by doubling. This improves compatibility with files created by other applications

  • Support for Postscript based Opentype font


-There are many high quality commercial and free OpenType fonts that are based on Postscript outlines. They are now supported for formatting, printing, PDF-export and display.

What is the Global Jam?

The Ubuntu Global Jam is an online and in person event that takes place all across the world. People get together with the interest of making Ubuntu better, while having a good time socializing with other people near you who have the same interest and passion about Ubuntu as you do.

What can your LoCo do?

The Ubuntu Global Jam has many different events that for users to participate in, just pick what you and your members like, and make it happen. You can pick from one or more of the following events:

Bug Jam - During a bug jam users would work on finding, triaging and fixing bugs.
Testing Jam - Lucid is due out the end of April and we need help testing it out prior to its release.
Upgrade Jam - Upgrade systems that are currently running older versions of Ubuntu and report your experience.
Documentation Jam - Write documentation about using Ubuntu, or joining the Ubuntu community, or work on making the existing documentation better.
Translations Jam - Help to make Ubuntu available to everyone. Help translate Ubuntu into your language.
Packaging Jam - Help out with improving packages in Ubuntu.
Other - If your team has some other aspect of helping out the Ubuntu Community, feel free to participate in that for the Global Jam.

How do we run a Jam?

If you have never run a Global Jam event before, or if you have, but would like some fresh ideas, we have three training sessions scheduled between now and the Global Jam event. The training sessions will be held by JorgeCastro and will be held in #ubuntu-locoteams on freenode. The training sessions will take place on:

17 February 2010 at 18:00 UTC
26 February 2010 at 2100 UTC
10 March 2010 at 2100 UTC

All three training sessions will contain tips, tricks, pointers and advice on how to run a Jam. You can also find out more information at the Running An Event page [2] on the Ubuntu Wiki.

What is needed to run a Jam?

In order to effectively run a Jam, each event will need a place to meet that has a decent internet connection, as well as some computers, and an area that users can work in. Suggested places are Universities, schools, and neighborhood centers.

Don't forget after you find a place to run your Jam and have decided what your LoCo wants to do during the Jam, you need to get the word out about your Jam! Blog about it, post it on Twitter and Identi.ca, place it on the Ubuntu Global Jam Events page [2], send emails to your LoCo's mailing lists, and anything else that you can think of. The more people that participate, the more fun that you will have, and the more help that can be provided to improve Ubuntu.

It's been 3 days reviewing openbravo flow including it's function. If  you are new to openbravo you will be having  a hard time configuring it out which will suite to your company needs. I list some two(2) important things that you have to keep in mind to be able to setup openbravo correctly.

Understanding Roles on OpenBravo


Roles are a way of grouping users together according to what parts of the system they are allowed to work with.You could set up a Role for use by the sales organisation that allowed access only to the Sales Management module and relevant reports. Whenever a new member of the sales team joined the organisation you could then allocated that role to them without having to configure each new user individually.

A user can have more than one Role, but each user can only log in under one role at any one time. For example, if a user has a Sales role and a Purchasing role, they could not log in under both roles at the same time. When you log into Openbravo ERP for the first time, the systems administrator role is already set up to enable you to configure the system.

You can change user by clicking on the top left user icon.

Setting up a client A.K.A. Company


The first stage in setting up basic data is to create a client. The Initial Client Setup process helps you complete all the steps in the correct order. When you set up a client you must specify which accounting schema the system will use. In this step you will need an accounting file depends on your country.

  1. Download the accounting file for your country and save it to a location on the computer where Openbravo ERP is installed.

  2. Log into Openbravo ERP under the System Administrator role.

  3. From the menu, select General Setup > Client > Initial Client Setup. The Initial Client Setup window appears.

  4. In the Client field, type your client name. This is usually the name of your company.

  5. In the Organization field, type the name of one of your company's organizations, for example "MyCompany Paris" or "MyCompany Sales". You can add other organizations later.

  6. From the Currency menu, select your company's local currency.

  7. In the Client Username specify a user name for the Client Admin account.

  8. In the Organization Username field specify a user name for the Organization Admin account.

  9. From the Country drop-down list, select the country where the client is located.

  10. In the City field type the city where the client is located.

  11. In the Accounting Dimensions section, click Browse.... The File Upload box appears.

  12. In the File Upload box, navigate to the accounts file you downloaded in step 1.

  13. Click OK to close the File Upload box and return to Openbravo ERP.

  14. When you are happy with the information you have entered, click OK to create the client.

  15. When the process is complete a confirmation message appears, listing the database tables that have been created.

  16. Select the Information tab.

  17. If you plan to use the Warehouse module, clear the Allow Negative Stock checkbox. If you plan to use the Warehouse module, select Allow Negative Stock.

  18. Click Save.

Once again sometime in February 18 and 19,2010 at SM City davao, the officials of the different internet café associations in Mindanao will troop back to Davao City for the 2010 Mindanao Internet Café Association Summit (MICAS).  Much like the First MICAS that was held in 2007, the Internet Café Association of Davao headed by its president Mr. Adolfo Solanor will take the lead in organizing next year’s gathering.


“It is an honor and a privilege for I-Café Pilipinas to be part of the team led by ICAD that would organize the 2010 MICAS in Davao City in February” stressed by Mr. Ed Zafra, Chair of I-Café Pilipinas the national advocacy organization mainly composed of the internet café associations and operators in the Philippines.  “We truly believe that the 2010 MICAS will serve as a vehicle in the further development of the internet cafes as a leader in community ICT access for peace and development in Mindanao” added by Mr. Zafra.


Bigger, better and bolder for the 2010 MICAS is the battle cry of the organizing teams.  Bigger in terms of participants as they get in touch with the other  internet café associations in Mindanao and other stakeholders in the ICT industry.  Better for what is planned are three simultaneous events –




  • ICT Trade Exhibit that will showcase the latest advances in computer hardware, software and internet related services to the internet café operators

  • Internet Café Entrepreneurship Workshop for those who are interested in investing in an internet cafe business.

  • Main Conference for the officials of the internet café associations and operators to come up with an action plan that would further the development of the internet cafes industry in Mindanao.


Bolder as the participants set their goals as they claim their leadership in ICT access at the community level.

The University of Baguio in cooperation with the ASEAN+3 Node of International Open Source Network (IOSN), the ASEAN Foundation, the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE), the Philippine Open Source Network (POSNET) and Baguio Association of Private and Technical Institutions (BAPTI) will be holding the 1st North Luzon Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Conference on January 18 and 19, 2010 at the University of Baguio.

It's been a month figuring out how to appear my PR-Page Rank on my site and it always shows " N/A" as the result when i use the google PR checker. Finally i stumble on this cool plugin on wordpress called Google XML Sitemaps just installed it, activate it and create and XML sitemap for you site. Automatically when you check your PR it will appear instead of "N/A".
Google XML Sitemaps will generate a sitemaps.org compatible sitemap of your WordPress blog which is supported by Ask.com, Google, MSN Search and YAHOO. Unlike “Dagon Design Sitemap Generator” above, this plugin wil generate a xml file which can be submitted to search engine directly. There’s even function in the plugin itself to update the sitemap and ping Yahoo and Google everytime you write and publsh a new post. You can see it live on my XML sitemap here.

A lot of happening during the year 2009. I would like to  list down some  of my activities that ive accomplished last year.

  • Attend the SAP Small Workshop for SMEs organized by Fast Track Solution.

  • Attend the DevCon at SM Davao last December.
